Heidi Stafford – Cayman Islands

RYT 200, and a Neurofascial and Triggerpoint Therapist

Yoga first captured my attention in 2010 with an intensely sweaty 90-minute Bikram Yoga class. The sequence offered me a unique opportunity to practice concentration and self-observation within a very physically demanding environment, which was humbling, uncomfortable and so necessary.

By 2013, my practice was consistent and I wanted to learn more, so I participated in Bliss Yoga’s first 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, and have since explored many avenues within and beyond yoga to continue learning and growing. Ayurveda, the so-called “sister-science” of yoga, has played a major role in the way I apply yogic lessons to my own daily life. The emphasis on the power and importance of optimal digestion has been absolutely life-changing for me. After a few years of self-study, I trained at the California College of Ayurveda and now practice several cleansing and rejuvenating Ayurvedic Therapies including Abhyanga Oil Massage and Shirodhara. I also really enjoy exploring physical anatomy through yoga and mindful movement, focusing on myofascial networks and trains of the body for biomechanical balance.

With further training in Triggerpoint therapy (Coaching the Body) and Neurofascial body-care techniques (Melt Method), I am now mostly focused on helping people resolve postural imbalances and pain patterns through yoga  (strength + stretch + balance), as well as self-compression and hydration techniques.

What I really enjoy most about teaching yoga and mindfulness practices is how much I am always learning, and what a pleasure it is to share this expanding understanding with others along the way.

Chantelle Relly – United States

500 Hour Professional Level Yoga Teacher Training

Chantelle has been practicing yoga for sixteen years and has noticed a remarkable change in her quality of life & increased energy, vitality and physical health along with contentment, patience, and peace of mind. Yoga is about finding equilibrium, a balance of strength and flexibility in our bodies, our breath, and our minds. As we practice yoga regularly, cultivating awareness of body and breath, we can begin to explore the link between them as a gateway to experiencing our own life force, the energetic system of prana, the energy that animates all living things. Awakening this natural healing energy reminds the body to heal, the mind to calm, and the spirit to honor its own inner wisdom.

Chantelle completed her 500 Hour Professional Level Yoga Teacher Training at the world-renowned Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts. There she was lucky enough to train with several experienced faculty members, studying all aspects of yoga from anatomy and physiology to philosophy and meditation. Teaching in the Kripalu style, students are encouraged to find their own unique expression of yoga that best helps to fulfill their individual goals of physical fitness and mental clarity. Chantelle guides students through creative posture flow where the breath is linked with movement & mediation in motion.

What are you planning to do on February 14th, 2020?

On St Valentine’s Day, we usually go out for dinner or exchange gifts with your love ones. Flowers, candy, red hearts, and romance…

That’s what Valentine’s day is all about, right?

  • We are going to explore the sense of trust while having fun trying the acrobatic poses of yoga.
  • Closing the session you will learn a basic Thai massage technique.
  • No experience is required

Myths of Acroyoga

Acroyoga is a healing practice.
The word comes from the Greek root akros, meaning hight and the Sanskrit word Yoga, meaning union. Together they form AcroYoga-Hight Union.

Many wonderful physical shapes and relationships can be formed, by this practice we can literally and figuratively elevate each other. we can get to know ourselves in a better way establishing deep states of union with ourselves, with others and with the community we live in.

Most likely when someone sees me practicing acro-yoga or any of the acrobatics postures of yoga I always get the comment of “I would love to try but I am too big, or I am not flexible or I am not strong

And that is not true, we create these stereotypes about how should we look or be before getting into the practice.
How crazy this sound?

  • Myth number 1:
    “I need to be strong”

It will help if you are strong enough to hold your body weight or if have any physical activity background, but you don’t need to be strong, instead, you need to be patient, you will get stronger with the practice and you have to.

  • Myth number 2:
    “I need to be flexible”

As I mentioned before it will help if you have your body flexibility available, but this not always is needed, instead is more important to work in the body awareness, knowing your body will help you to move better and to understand the flow of body movement with others.

  • Myth number 3:
” I am too tall, too big or too small”

Here is where the rule of the sides doesn’t matters apply. You do need to understand your body, knows how you move, how you balance and you will combine your movements finding balance with others. But if you have been following the movement path, I mean if you haven’t dedicated time to do any physical activity that will help you with this, don’t worry what it matters is how committed are you with the acro-yoga practice , because if you are committed and you dedicate time you will learn how to find efficiency in your movement; you will understand your body and the others, you will have fun, while you learn.

  • Myth number 4:
“I don’t have the right clothes”

You don’t need any fancy clothing to practice acro yoga, just arrived with comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely. it is better not to wear saggy clothes because it can interfere in the movements with your partners and get trapped in a toe or a finger with the acro-yoga transitions. You don’t want that. Is ok to wear leggings and sports t-shirts or tops

Be aware that if you are wearing tiny shorts and you need to do a poses that demands to straddle, someone might be seen more than they prefer to see. So be mindful and respectful with yourself and others.

  • Myth Number 5th:
    “I don’t have a yoga mat”

Ok, now you are just looking for excuses. You don’t need a super fancy yoga mat as people post on social media. I have been using my mat, the same mat for 5 years, and it works well. Before having a yoga mat I use a towel or I looked for grass areas where the practice will be more enjoyable. However now a days there are lots of options to buy a yoga mat that will suits you better for your practice.

  • Myth number 6,
“I don’t have anyone to practice with”

It will always be better to have an acro partner to practice with and be able to grow in the practice together but this is, not your case you can start by working at home with the acrobatics postures of yoga-like sirsasana (headstand pose) or any arm balancing like bakasana (crow pose) As I mentioned before understanding your body will help you to have a more enjoyable practice with others, so when you find someone you are already one step ahead in the practice Other option will be to approach the community in the beach or the parks, depending where do you live. When you find any acro yoga jam don’t be shy, that is your time to go for it and meet wonderful people who for sure will open you the door be part of their practice.

I hope this helps you to start with your acro yoga practice if this is what you want to do and you have been postponed it.

If you are interested in receiving more info regards to acroyoga sessions or arm balancing classes.

“Be brave, be courageous and you will be surprised by your achievements”

Do you take time to do the things you love?

A lot of people still spend most of their lives filled with stress, anxiety, and despair about how they spend the majority of their working and waking hours. How often do you take time to do to the things you love?

It happens to all of us, we get so much caught spending time at work, taking care of our family that we “never” have time.

Sound familiar?

I believe if we dedicate more time of our lives doing what we love and working in a fulfilling job will change the world and the way we treat each other as human beings. It is healthy and needed to organize your days in a way you can be productive at work and you can have some time off. And there is nothing wrong with that. We have this misconception that the harder or the longer we work makes us better workers. I used to believe that for years. Is something I got from the society I was living in before I started traveling as a way of leaving and I am not pointing fingers to anyone here, I take full responsibility, I didn’t know any better at the time.

Nowadays there are so many different ways to produce income, thanks to the internet you can create an online business that will allow you to organize your life in a way you will be able to enjoy more, I am not saying this will be easier it can be a lot of work too but if this is something you choose to do it will be so much more rewarding. I am currently in the process of creating my online business, by taking my classes, workshops, and training online, thanks to Wire Creative. But if teaching is not your thing, there are tons of possibilities, you can be selling through amazon, or working as a virtual assistant, the possibilities are many, you can check this link of the course to know more about it.

I have been so busy these days planning my Acroyoga & Rock Climbing Retreat and planing my classes on top of taking care of my daily obligations, cleaning the house, making sure I feed my cats and find time to spend with my love partner, that a break was needed.

So I decided to go with a bunch of students/friend to climb for fun to Cayman Brac the island, where I will host my retreat in November 2019. and every time I go there I wonder why I don’t do this more often. If I love rock climbing & doing yoga, acroyoga and other things.

You know what? The funny thing is that Cayman Brac is a 40 min flight from where I live, that means I could be doing that once a month at least.

Anyways, I am here today to share with you also how rewarding was to take this group of friends to climb for the very first time. To see their faces after knowing they achieved something they thought it was too hard before trying it, is priceless.

We spend a weekend enjoying amaizing sunrises & sunsets, exploring the island, climbing, rappelling, I showed them some of the caves, I had time to visit some friends and we had so much fun chilling in the pool of the condominiums, with the amazing view of the Clift.

We were so lucky with the weather, Cayman island can be really hot especially in the summer but we had a sunny day, every day.

And I am so grateful for having such an amazing group of people in my life, who like doing all this crazy things.

If this is something you would love to try, check out the info fo my Acroyoga & Climb Retreat in Cayman Brac I love doing any outdoor sports but I understand this can not be for everyone.

Although it is proved that people who stay optimistic and work in a job they love or fulfill them or find time to do things they enjoy they have more quality of life and more lifetime!

I will share some tips here to start the change with simple things:

  • Find time to spend with your loved ones ( family or friends)
  • Get together to play games putting your phone in silence
  • If you work demand to spend too many hours being inside, make time to take a walk before or after work or maybe you can take a break and go for a walk, even if it is only around the block but much better find a nice park where you can go for a walk, fresh air is always good.
  • Do you have pets, play with your cat or your dog for 10 min a day, it will make you feel better.
  • Every day thinks in one thing you are thankful for.
  • Do you like reading, put your phone in silence and read at least 20 min every day.
  • Morning rituals are my favorites, I keep my phone without wifi until I finish my yoga or meditation session in the morning or sometimes is just breathing exercises
  • Take a holiday trip!

I know all these options my sound obvious or my not but seriously, don’t waste any more time you have to make the change happen if that is what you want. Otherwise you will be forever being miserable.

The time is now.

Tell me, what is that you like to do and you keep finding reasons to push it off?

Acroyoga & Rock Climb Retreat

Cayman Brac,

8th-11th of November 2019

What are you thankful for?

Just a few days ago, Thursday 22nd of November, 2018 to be more precise; the American thanks giving day was celebrated

Because I am from Argentina, part of the American continent (yes we are American too), but located in South America, we don’t really celebrate the thanks giving day.

However this day can be a great opportunity to remind us the things we should be thankful for. The simple things are the ones we always forget: a nice meal, a warm shower, a clean towel, a comfortable bed, a bathroom!.. We underestimate how bless we are by wanted to have more and more.

Think about it, you don’t really need this ultimate smart phone, a big tv or that fancy clothing. We tend to fill empty spaces with material things, maybe because we think  things are going to make us happier. When we just have to take the decision to be happy.

I know is easier to say it than to do it. Advice: try to remind your self to make time in your busy life and do something you enjoy; only one thing per day at least.

I will give you my example: I love the adventure and I have decide to live my life in a way many other will consider dangerous but I do not let that affect me, instead I choose to surround myself with people who has positive attitude and we have things in common.

This week I am expressing gratitude because I was able to live my life the way I want:

Gratitude for being able to rock climb with my awesome friend Angel

Gratitude for being able to go to dive any time
Gratitude because I was able to practice acroyoga
Gratitude for being able to work doing something I am passionate about

Expressing gratitude can increase your vital energy, reduce stress, help us with anxiety and make you feel better.

There are many ways to do it:

-You can journal.  Make a list of the things you are thankful for. It can be done first thing in the morning or before going to bed.

-Yoga helps to express gratitude. Choose your favourite pose and spend a few minutes in it.

-Make a pause in your day and take a minute to practice deep mindful breathing. Count 10 to breath in and 10 to breath out, slowly.

-Focus on the things you CAN do, we get used to take things for granted and we forget to celebrate the small achievements.

The thanksgiving day this year has the particularity to be on the full moon. We already know the full moon bring a special energy to celebrate, to reconnect, to practice yoga or any other healthy activity and feel good.

I am not a tarot reader but would like to share some info about the full moon in November 2018 is in Geminis, is time to reflect, full release of what is not longer serving us, pulling all the layers out so we can understand who we are and reveal our true-self.

Is a great opportunity to slow down, grab your mat and practice Chandra Namaskar.

We can see this as a brand new beginning, a new chapter opens one more time to determine your goals, follow your intuitions and learn how to live with joy.

Remember is your choice.

Feel free to leave me a comment and share what are YOU thankful for?
