Strength & Flexibility

Most of us believe that to improve our flexibility we need to stretch, stretch and stretch a little more.

Leaving completely behind the fact that we need a strong structure to sustain that flexibility to do not get injuries and to do not actually be like gum.

Working in the specific strength our muscles need to improve our flexibility doesn’t mean lifting weights.

In my classes, you will learn how to develop strength using your own body weight, the act of gravity and isometric contractions ( when muscle length remains relatively constant as tension is produced.)  And you will learn how your body moves.

This will help you to move better in the trick and poses you learn in the aerial circus acrobatics or pole dance.

But is also fundamental for our daily activities. As we get older we lose connection with our bodies, we lose flexibility and we lose strength.

How many of us start feeling the tightness in our hamstrings with simple moves like tiding the laces of our shoes, or picking up something from the floor 👵🏼

Is never too late to take action and start improving your quality of life

In the month of August, I will be teaching every Monday, specific workshop classes every, to improve your strength, flexibility and mobility.

Each class is targeted to a specific part of the body

Read the description of each class below

August 2nd – Upper-Body Strength & Flexibility ( shoulders, arms, hands & fingers)
The focus of the class will be on:
  •  Shoulders and arms mobility 
  • Hands and fingers drills to improve your hand grip (so important!)

August 9th, 2021- Lower-Body Strength & Flexibility ( hip, legs and feet) 
The focus of the class will be on:
  •  Waking up your feet mobility and improve the pointy toes. 
  • Getting your hips & legs strong & flexible. Split & Straddles included!

 

August 16th, 2021- Core & Spine Strenght & Flexibility ( backends, torsions & twists) 
The focus of the class will be on:
  • Understanding what is the core, how many muscles include ( it is not just the abs!)
  • Getting our middle section of the body strong & flexible.⠀
  • Core-workout, backbends, torsions & twists

August 23rd, 2021 – Full-Body Strength, Mobility & Flexibility 
The focus of the class will be on:
  •  Everything we have worked in the preview classes combined in a full-body strength  & flexibility training 

August 30th, 2021- Passive Stretching, Restore & Recover
The focus of the class will be on:
  •  Passive gentle stretches
  • The importance of relaxation to have a good muscle recovery. 

I am teaching this workshop in person at Quinntessential Movement Studio, Grand Cayman. The Cayman Islands.

August’s Acroyoga Workshop

Finally, I will be hosting this workshop I have wanted to do for a long time and you are invited 😊

Let me tell you more about it:

“AcroYoga is a dynamic partner practise that blends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics and the loving-kindness of the healing arts. It is a fun way to move your body and connect with others”

This workshop series is all-level and will feature partner exercises to help grow your practice. We will explore safety and roles (base, flyer, spotter) and work towards fun poses and transitions in safe and accessible ways. We’ll also introduce concepts of Thai massage and the principles of therapeutic movement.

No experience is necessary; everyone will find success at their own levels.

You can come with a partner OR independently to meet new friends at the workshop!

Each session will have a specific focus, dividing the practitioners by levels of experience so everyone can learn.

Specifications

During this workshop we will work in a progressive way, from the 1st to the last class, respecting each person’s individualities.

This is a 90% physical practice, where it will always be something to do to bring improvement and to focus on each person’s practice.

Ideal for curious beginners and intermediate practitioners who are ready to challenge their balance when being upside down.

 

Requirement:

  • Be comfortable practicing headstand or sirsasana inversion. (no need to be an expert).
  • Attire: comfortable sports clothing.
  • We will work barefoot.
  • Bring your own mat and water bottle.

Contraindication:

  • Please don’t enroll in the workshop if you have spine injuries, shoulder injuries, neck injuries or recent surgeries.

Curriculum:

  • November 15th, 2020

  1. Energizing warm-up and conditioning exercises.
  2. Recognize the postural muscles that will help you to keep the inversion practice.
  3. Proper hands, head, forearms and shoulder positions to build a solid foundation.
  4. Difference between hand and forearm foundation to pinky finger and forearm foundation.
  5. Proper practice with and without the wall.
  6. Learn how to fall out of the pose safely and with precaution.
  7. Split entrance, maybe backbends.
  8. Flexibility, Relaxation & Meditation.
  • November 22nd, 2020

  1. Energizing warm-up and conditioning exercises.
  2. Learn how to be a spotter and how to practice with a spot. 
  3. Practice how to fall out of the pose safely and with precaution.
  4. Muscle engagement and control when lifting your legs in your inverted posture. 
  5. Working to achieve “the line” with a neutral spine position.
  6. Knee tuck legs entrance.
  7. Practice and understand the difference between headstand and forearm stand.  
  8. Flexibility, Relaxation & Meditation 
  • November 29th, 2020

  1. Energizing warm-up and conditioning exercises 
  2. How is your perception when being upside-down? Get laser-focused.
  3. Gain control and find the effortless balance. 
  4. Play with leg transitions without touching the ground.
  5. Have fun and explore what else your body can do.

Master your Headstand

Inversions are considered to be some of the most effective yoga poses for focusing the mind, detoxing the body, and soothing the soul.

Considering most of our lives are spent with our heads held high, legs below and feet grounded, reversing this arrangement feels like a refreshing change of pace.

Plus, it has lots of benefits. For starters, inversions build upper-body strength, balance and confidence.  They also prompt you to see the world from a new perspective! 

Moving into postures where your head is lower than your heart also helps to prevent lymphatic fluid from pooling in your legs (a result of our upright lives), while increasing circulation to your brain—a combo that instantly boosts energy.

Then, there’s the fact that inversions can be so much fun. They give us an opportunity to get a little playful with our practice and not take ourselves so seriously.

Class Description:

  • Yoga in Spanish :

This yoga class is taught in Spanish.
Ideal if you are a native Spanish speaking person or you would like to practice your Spanish while doing yoga.

  • Hatha Flexibility Yoga Class: 

This is a gentle flow, we start the practice with a nice warm-up. Staying longer in the postures giving our body time to adjust to the pose and improve our flexibility and mobility. Ideal for when you feel tired but you know you will feel amazing after your yoga session

 

  • 30min Vinyasa 30 min Restorative Flow :

This is class-based on postures to build overall strength and resistance, sometimes we will sweat but don’t worry it will be a nice reward for your efforts, ending the class with yummy restorative postures and breathing techniques

  • Free Yoga tutorial for Acrobats:

This is a free yoga tutorial I share inside of the private Facebook group Yoga for every Acrobat. An online community for aerial acrobats, pole dancers, or anyone who is curious about how to improve flexibility mobility and strength with yoga.

Special Class | Workshop

  • Headstand Club:

During these classes, we will have fun while learning how to get into your headstand and feel comfortable on your balance upside-down. Specific conditioning & flexibility exercise are included. Beginners are welcome

  • Straddles & Splits | Online Workshop:

During this workshop, we will focus on the flexibility and strength needed, going over exercises and stretches to improve your square split and your straddle split Whether you’re just starting your flexibility journey, or you’ve been at it for a while, you will walk away from this workshop knowing how to improve those splits and what to work on to keep seeing progress!

If you like the challenging postures of yoga and you are looking to build body control, strength  and balance. This 3 class series is for you.

You will learn how to get in and out in a safe way of the famous Sirsasana Yoga pose also known in English as headstand.

Benefits of the pose:

  • Is therapeutic for a headache and migraine:

Acroyoga for St Valentine’s Day

On St Valentine’s Day, we usually go out for dinner or exchange gifts with your love ones. Flowers, candy, red hearts, and romance…

That’s what Valentine’s day is all about, right?

But maybe this time you don’t feel like doing the same things, you would like to surprise your other half or you want to do something with a friend

Are you looking to do something more than dinner and a movie on Valentine’s Day?

If so, Acroyoga is for you, and the Valentine’s ‘season’ presents the perfect opportunity to try it out.

You’ve likely heard yoga defined as “union” or “yoke”, but what does that really mean? 

Yoga forms a connection between your breath, your mind, and your body.  

Acroyoga invites us to experience the full spectrum of our being through opportunities to give and to receive, support and be supported; to connect with your Acroyoga partner.

  • We are going to explore the sense of trust while having fun trying the acrobatic poses of yoga.
  • Closing the session you will learn a basic Thai massage technique.
  • No experience is required

Do you trust yourself?

What are the dreams and visions you have been having lately?

Are you ready to take risks and put your fear away in order to achieve your dreams?

I know it sounds easier than it is.

” I always dream of doing….”

” I would love..but”

We are specialists in being busy and making excuses to delay, postpone or never achieved our dreams our goals.

I was like that as well but now I am determined to follow my dreams, and yes sometimes it will be hard and yes I have to be ready to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

To step out of my comfort zone and do things I have never done before.

The fear to be judged, the fear to fail it can be paralyzing.

If we only change the perspective toward this we will be taking a massive shift.

If we can see we are our worst judge and maybe realize that by putting ourselves out there we might be helping someone else whit similar problems. Or instead of being afraid of making mistakes we realize that we don’t know everything, that we will make tons of mistakes so we can embrace them and take them as learning opportunities.

There will ALWAYS be obstacles along your path so that you can continually learn more of who you are and how you show up for the occasion.

Every full moon is the time to focus our energies on letting go and releasing all fears.

Time to reflect on what is no longer serving us and adapt to evolve.

Because things not always will present in the exact same way we planned it to be.

Since 2018, every full moon I host a yoga class by donation to fundraise a non-profit organization here in the Cayman Islands.

This year October’s full moon date is busy with lots of events and things happening on the island so I have decided to plan this magical encounter 1 week after the full moon.

On the Saturday of October 19th, I will be hosting an Acroyoga Jam.

This is a playful practice the invites us to meet and have fun while we learn how to perform yoga poses with others.
